Chris was brought on to design multiple sets for the MTV Movie & TV Awards hosted by Leslie Jones. The show’s cold open had Leslie transported through a string of beloved ’70s and ’80s sitcoms. While the plan was originally to shoot all of these moments on green screen with simple props, the “Leslie Matters” sequence was upgraded to a full practical set—pulled together by Chris and his team the day before filming.

To maximize resources, the crew cleverly repurposed the “Kong vs. Godzilla” set and transformed it into a retro ’80s sitcom living room. Beyond the open, the show featured several comedy bits paying homage to classic films, each requiring partial recreations so VFX could seamlessly drop Leslie into the action.

In total, Chris and his crew built and dressed two full sets, created two scenic recreation elements, and prepped three separate green screen environments—each outfitted with the necessary props to make Leslie’s comedic universe feel authentic.
